Pushing the Limits: A Challenge Worth Taking

This journey is not for the faint of heart. Biking from Versailles to Mont Saint-Michel in just two days is a true test of endurance, determination, and resilience. However, the reward is an unparalleled sense of achievement and the chance to experience some of France's most beautiful and historic landscapes in an intimate and unforgettable way.

Day 1: The Ultimate Endurance Test

Starting at 8:30 AM from Château de Versailles, the first day was planned to be the longest cycling day of my life. The goal: cover 200 kilometers to reach Alençon before nightfall.

"You know that moment when you wash dishes at home and finally realize there's one big pot left on the stove? I had exactly the same feeling when I discovered my destination was 10 kilometers outside the city."

Personal reflection during the ride

The journey took me through Nonancourt, a town historically significant for its role in the 100 Years War, with remains of fortifications from that period. The Church of Saint Martin stands as a notable landmark in this medieval town with its origins in the 12th century and Gothic architecture.

Paranormal Encounters: Adding Mystery to the Adventure

As if the physical challenge wasn't enough, this biking expedition also holds a supernatural twist. Throughout the trip, I encountered mysterious and spooky paranormal activities that added an extra layer of excitement to the journey.

During the evening hours, cycling through remote forests near Alençon, I hadn't seen another human being for 2-3 hours. The eerie silence and isolation created an otherworldly atmosphere.

It turns out I'm not the only one feeling something weird in these woods. There is a known myth in this area known as the legend of Alençon or 'La Dame Blanche' (The White Lady).

The myth tells of Marie, who was married to a knight named Renaud. When Renaud returned from war, he found his wife with a son and accused her of infidelity. The argument turned into the brutal murder of Marie, and the knight hanged himself after realizing his mistake.

"I'm not a spiritual person, but honestly the night I spent here was one of the weirdest nights of my life. I had the most weird dreams. A kid was asking me to wake up and drink water, and I did as she told me. This repeated three times until I told her to stop."

Day 2: Through Normandy to Mont Saint-Michel

The second day began with beautiful weather and a journey through Normandy. Election Day in France made the roads unusually quiet, creating an almost surreal atmosphere as I cycled through empty villages.

The route took me through Bagnoles de l'Orne, known for its thermal springs believed to have therapeutic properties since Roman times. According to local legend, the healing properties were discovered when a medieval knight named Hugo de Tessa noticed his aging horse becoming younger after drinking from the waters.

You know you're in Normandy when you start to see more American flags. These flags mark American soldiers' cemeteries of those who lost their lives during the Second World War - a poignant reminder of the region's significant role in history.

The Grand Finale: Mont Saint-Michel

After 340 kilometers and countless challenges, the moment finally arrived. As Mont Saint-Michel came into view, rising majestically from the tidal flats, all the pain and exhaustion melted away.

"Church and state, soul and body, God and man are all one at Mont Saint-Michel, and the business of all is to fight, each in his own way, or to stand guard for each other."

Henry Adams

This marvel of medieval architecture, perched on a rocky island, represented not just the end of an incredible physical journey, but a spiritual achievement. The sight of this UNESCO World Heritage Site made every kilometer, every climb, and every moment of doubt completely worthwhile.

Racing against time to catch my train back to Paris, I had just enough time to admire this architectural masterpiece and reflect on the extraordinary adventure that had brought me here.
